“2021 is the year of automation!” You’re probably thinking you’ve heard something similar to that previously. In fact if you do a quick internet search it only takes seconds to discover that 2020 through to 2016 and probably the years further back were also designated as “the year of automation”! The truth is, the British industry is notoriously reluctant to invest in automation, leaving the whole of the UK trailing behind other G7 countries in the uptake of robotics. So, what’s different in 2021?

A recent report from the Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy Committee (BEIS) highlighted the extent of the challenge, arguing that if the UK does not make a concerted effort to transition to the Fourth Industrial Revolution, it will miss a pivotal opportunity for growth. In other words, UK manufactures must act to keep up with leading countries!
